  1. Choose or drop a PDF.
  2. Type the watermark text, or tap a ready one such as CONFIDENTIAL or For KYC only.
  3. Choose where it goes (the middle, a corner, or repeated across the page), the angle, size, colour and strength. You can also stamp only some pages.
  4. Press Add watermark, check the preview of the first page, then press Download PDF.

Add a text watermark to a PDF

A watermark is text stamped across a page, like CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT or SAMPLE. One of its most useful jobs in India is protecting copies of your ID. When a bank, broker, landlord or new employer asks for a copy of your Aadhaar, PAN or passport, a line such as "For KYC with XYZ Bank only, 16/10/2026" makes it harder for anyone to reuse that copy for a loan or a SIM card in your name. This tool adds the watermark in your browser, so your ID copy isn't uploaded anywhere.

If the text is too long to fit on a page at the size you picked, it's made smaller so it stays inside the page, and the tool tells you on how many pages that happened. Pages saved sideways still get a watermark that reads the right way up.

Good settings for ID copies

  • Say who the copy is for and why, and add the date, for example "For XYZ Bank home loan KYC only 16-10-2026". A plain COPY stops very little.
  • Choose Repeat across the page with the Diagonal angle. A single stamp in a corner can be cropped off, but repeated text runs over the photo and the numbers.
  • Keep the strength around 20 to 30% so your details can still be read by the person checking them.
  • Look at the preview of the first page before you download.

Things to know

  • The watermark font covers English letters, numbers, common symbols and ₹. Hindi, Gujarati and other Indian scripts aren't supported, and the tool tells you which characters it can't print.
  • The watermark is added as text on top of each page. Nothing underneath is changed, and the PDF's own text stays selectable.
  • A watermark discourages misuse; it doesn't lock the file. Someone with PDF editing software could try to remove it, though text repeated across the whole page is a lot more work to clean off than one stamp.
  • Password-protected PDFs can't be watermarked here. Print an unprotected copy first (in Chrome: Print, then Save as PDF).
  • The download is a new file ending in -watermarked.pdf. Your original isn't changed.
