பயன்படுத்துவது எப்படி

What is a QR code?

A QR (Quick Response) code is a square barcode that phone cameras can read in a split second. It was invented by Denso Wave in Japan in 1994 and is now an international standard (ISO/IEC 18004). In India you see them everywhere: the UPI stand at a kirana shop, restaurant menus, Wi-Fi details in offices and links on product packaging. This QR code generator makes all of these. All a QR code stores is text. What happens when you scan it depends on how that text begins: https:// opens a website, upi://pay opens a UPI app, WIFI: offers to join a network.

What each type stores

How a UPI QR code works

A UPI QR code holds a payment link in the format defined by NPCI. The main parameters are pa (payee address, your UPI ID), pn (payee name), am (amount), cu (currency, always INR) and tn (transaction note). Values are percent-encoded so spaces and symbols survive.

UPI ID: ramesh.k@okhdfcbank, name: Ramesh Kumar, amount: ₹500, note: Rent Oct
upi://pay?pa=ramesh.k@okhdfcbank&pn=Ramesh%20Kumar&am=500.00&cu=INR&tn=Rent%20Oct

When someone scans it, their UPI app shows your name and the amount. They still enter their own UPI PIN, and money moves only after they approve it. Nobody can take money from your account by scanning your QR code. If you leave the amount blank, the payer types it in, which is how most shop QR codes work. Always check the name shown in the app before paying a QR code you didn't make yourself.

Error correction, size and colours

QR codes store extra recovery data so they still scan when partly damaged or dirty. Higher levels make the code denser:

LevelRecoverable damageUse it for
L (Low)about 7%Long text on screens
M (Medium)about 15%Most uses (default)
Q (Quartile)about 25%Printed stickers and posters
H (High)about 30%Outdoor prints, or a logo placed over the centre

The standard asks for a blank border (quiet zone) of 4 modules around the code. Keep it when printing on a coloured or busy background. Dark modules on a light background scan most reliably. Inverted (light-on-dark) codes and low-contrast colour pairs fail in many apps, so the tool warns you about them. For print, download the SVG. It's a vector file, so it stays sharp on a large banner. Size the print for the scanning distance. A small table sticker is fine up close, but a poster read from across a room needs a much larger code.

Tips

  • Keep it short. A short link makes a simpler code that scans faster, even on budget phones.
  • Start links with https://, or some scanners show the address as plain text.
  • These codes are static. The content is fixed inside the image and never expires, but it can't be edited later. To change it, make a new code.
  • Test before printing. Scan with two different phones and, for UPI, with two different UPI apps.
  • Privacy: codes are made in your browser. Your UPI ID, Wi-Fi password and contacts aren't uploaded anywhere.

அடிக்கடி கேட்கப்படும் கேள்விகள்

Choose UPI, enter your UPI ID (for example your mobile number followed by @ybl, or name@okaxis) and the name on your bank account, and download the PNG. Anyone can scan it with any UPI app (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM and others) to pay you. Leave the amount blank so the payer can enter it, or fill it in for a fixed amount.

Yes. A UPI QR code only contains your UPI ID, name and optional amount. It lets people send money to you, but it can't be used to take money out. Every payment needs the payer's own UPI PIN. Be wary of anyone who asks you to scan a QR code or enter your PIN to 'receive' money. Receiving money never needs your PIN.

No. The content is stored inside the image itself, so the code works for as long as the link, UPI ID or Wi-Fi password inside it stays valid. Because it's static, you can't edit it later. Create a new code if the details change.

Choose Wi-Fi, type the network name exactly as it appears (it is case-sensitive), choose the security type (WPA/WPA2 for almost all home routers) and enter the password. Guests point their camera at the code and tap to join, without typing the password.

PNG for WhatsApp, websites and documents; SVG for printing. SVG is best for large flex banners, standees and shop boards, because it's a vector image that stays sharp at any size.

Usually it's the colours, the size or the amount of content. Common causes are low contrast, light-coloured modules on a dark background, a missing white border, printing it too small, or too much content making the code very dense. Use dark on light colours, keep a margin of 4, shorten the content and raise error correction to Q or H for printed codes.
