The Indian grading system
Most Indian schools, boards and universities grade on percentages. This grade calculator works out your aggregate percentage from your marks in each subject and turns it into a grade and a class (Distinction, First Class and so on).
Grade scale (common Indian standard)
| Percentage | Grade | Class |
|---|---|---|
| 90% and above | A+ | Distinction |
| 80%–89.99% | A | Distinction |
| 75%–79.99% | B+ | Distinction |
| 70%–74.99% | B+ | First Class |
| 60%–69.99% | B | First Class |
| 50%–59.99% | C | Second Class |
| 40%–49.99% | D | Pass |
| Below 40% | F | Fail |
How the aggregate is calculated
This handles subjects with different maximum marks, like a 50-mark practical and a 100-mark theory paper. The calculator adds up both columns first and then works out the percentage. Say you got 40 out of 50 in the practical and 70 out of 100 in theory. That's 110 out of 150, or 73.33%. Averaging the two subject percentages (80% and 70%) would give you 75%, which is wrong.
CBSE / state board grade scale
| Grade | Grade Point | Marks Range |
|---|---|---|
| A1 | 10 | 91–100 |
| A2 | 9 | 81–90 |
| B1 | 8 | 71–80 |
| B2 | 7 | 61–70 |
| C1 | 6 | 51–60 |
| C2 | 5 | 41–50 |
| D | 4 | 33–40 |
| E (Fail) | None | Below 33 |
