India's post office and government-backed savings schemes are among the safest places to keep money, and several of them save tax too. Before you invest, you should know what each scheme pays, how long your money is locked in and who can open an account. These calculators show you that in a few seconds.
The Public Provident Fund (PPF) is one of India's oldest long-term savings schemes, and plenty of middle-class families build their savings around it. It has a 15-year lock-in, the interest is tax-free, and deposits qualify for a Section 80C deduction. The PPF Calculator shows your balance year by year, the total interest earned and the maturity value, based on your yearly deposit and the current PPF interest rate.
The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is a government scheme for saving towards a girl child's education and marriage. It pays more interest than PPF, deposits are deductible under Section 80C, and the maturity amount is fully tax-free. The calculator shows what your monthly deposits could add up to when the account matures, 21 years after opening.
The National Savings Certificate (NSC) is a 5-year post office certificate with a fixed, guaranteed return. The Senior Citizen Savings Scheme (SCSS) is for people aged 60 and above, pays one of the highest rates available to them, and pays it every quarter. The Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) doubles your money over a fixed period. The calculator for each scheme shows the maturity value and the interest earned (and, for SCSS, the quarterly payout).
The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) is a pension scheme for workers in the unorganised sector. Pick your age and the pension you want (₹1,000–₹5,000 a month) and the calculator shows how much you'd need to contribute each month.
The calculators use the rates the government announced for October–December 2026, which it reviews every quarter. Treat the results as a guide, and check the official India Post or government website before you invest.
