What this PDF merger does
PDF Merge joins two or more PDF files into one, in the order you set. Portals for passports, visas, bank KYC and college admissions often allow only one upload per section, so your Aadhaar, PAN and address proof, each saved as a separate PDF, have to become a single file first. The merging happens in your browser. Your files aren't uploaded to a server or stored anywhere.
How the pages are joined
The pages of each file are copied into a new PDF exactly as they are. Nothing is redrawn or re-compressed, so text stays sharp and selectable, scans keep their quality, and every page keeps its own size and orientation. An A4 letter followed by a landscape bank statement stays that way in the merged file.
The merged PDF is usually close to the total size of the files you added. The tool shows the total number of pages and the combined size as soon as you add the files, which helps when a portal has a size limit.
Getting the order right
- Files are listed in the order you pick them. Use the arrow buttons to move one up or down.
- Sort by name understands numbers, so
2-pan.pdfcomes before10-salary-slip.pdf. Naming your files 1, 2, 3 before you start saves time on a long list. - If the bank or embassy checklist gives an order (application form, ID proof, address proof, income proof), follow it. The person checking your file reads it from top to bottom.
- Need to move single pages around inside a file, or drop a blank page? Merge first, then use Organize PDF Pages on the merged file.
Common uses
- One PDF of all your KYC documents for a bank account, demat account or insurance claim.
- Six months of salary slips or bank statements for a home loan application.
- Mark sheets and certificates for a college or job application that asks for a single file.
- The pages of an agreement that the scanner saved as separate files.
Things to know
- Password-protected or locked PDFs can't be merged, and they're marked in red in the list. Open the file with its password, print it to a new PDF (in Chrome: Print, then Save as PDF) and add that copy instead.
- Bookmarks from the original files (the outline some PDF readers show in a side panel) aren't carried into the merged file. The pages themselves are all there.
- If the merged file is over the portal's limit, run it through Compress PDF. Scanned pages usually shrink a lot.
- Your original files aren't changed. Use Open to check and scroll through every page before you upload the merged PDF.
