ఎలా ఉపయోగించాలి
- Pick the grade scale: the US 4.0 scale, or the 10-point (UGC) letter grades (O, A+, A and so on) that most Indian universities use for SGPA.
- For each course, pick the grade and enter the credits. The course name is optional. The example rows show how it works; change them to your own.
- Tap Add course (or press Enter in the last credits box) for more rows, and the × button to remove one.
- Your GPA, total credits and grade points update as you type. Use Copy result to save the summary or Reset to go back to the example.
How GPA is calculated
GPA (grade point average) is a weighted average of your grade points. Each course counts in proportion to its credits, so a 4-credit course moves your GPA more than a 2-credit one. This GPA calculator works on the 4.0 scale common in US universities, and on the 10-point letter grades most Indian universities use for SGPA and CGPA.
Say you got an A (4.0) in a 4-credit course, a B+ (3.3) in a 3-credit course and a C (2.0) in another 3-credit course. That's 16 + 9.9 + 6 = 31.9 grade points over 10 credits, so your GPA is 3.19.
Grade points on the 4.0 scale
| Grade | Points | % Range (typical) |
|---|---|---|
| A+ / A | 4.0 | 90–100% |
| A− | 3.7 | 87–89% |
| B+ | 3.3 | 83–86% |
| B | 3.0 | 80–82% |
| B− | 2.7 | 77–79% |
| C+ | 2.3 | 73–76% |
| C | 2.0 | 70–72% |
| C− | 1.7 | 67–69% |
| D+ | 1.3 | 63–66% |
| D | 1.0 | 60–62% |
| F | 0.0 | Below 60% |
Grade points on the 10-point UGC scale
The UGC's Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) guidelines use these letter grades. Your university may name them a little differently, so check its ordinance.
| Grade | Points |
|---|---|
| O (Outstanding) | 10 |
| A+ (Excellent) | 9 |
| A (Very good) | 8 |
| B+ (Good) | 7 |
| B (Above average) | 6 |
| C (Average) | 5 |
| P (Pass) | 4 |
| F (Fail) or Ab (Absent) | 0 |
The sum works the same way. An O in a 4-credit course, an A in a 3-credit course and a B+ in another 3-credit course give (40 + 24 + 21) ÷ 10, an SGPA of 8.5.
