How to Use
- Enter your Target maturity amount, the sum you want to end up with.
- Enter the Rate of interest your bank offers on RDs.
- Set the Duration in months and the Compounding frequency (usually quarterly).
- The Required monthly instalment updates as you type. It also shows how much you'll deposit in total and how much of the target comes from interest. Save it with pdf or share it.
Plan an RD around a goal
Most RD calculators tell you what you'll earn. This RD instalment calculator works the other way round: "How much do I need to put in each month to reach ₹X?" That's goal-based planning. Saving for a family trip, a new phone or the down payment on a bike? Enter the target and it gives you the monthly amount.
Ways to use it
- Emergency fund: aim for 6 times your monthly expenses. If you spend ₹30,000 a month, that's ₹1,80,000. To build it in 12 months at 7%, the tool tells you to save about ₹14,444 a month.
- Festival or holiday fund: start 6–12 months ahead. Small monthly amounts add up, and the interest helps.
- Vehicle down payment: set a target and let the monthly RD do the saving for you.
RD vs savings account
A savings account earns 3–4% a year, while an RD usually earns 6.5–7.5%. On ₹5,000 a month over 2 years, an RD at 7% earns about ₹9,100 in interest against about ₹4,500 in a savings account at 3.5%, so roughly ₹4,600 more. For a short-term goal, that's worth having.
