How to Use

  1. Drop JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or BMP images on the box, or tap it to choose them.
  2. Choose the format to convert to: JPG, PNG or WebP.
  3. For JPG or WebP, set the quality. For JPG, pick the colour that transparent areas should become (white by default).
  4. Tap Convert. Each file shows its old and new format and size.
  5. Download each file, or tap Download all as ZIP when you converted several.

Why convert image formats?

Different places want different formats. Many government, bank and exam portals in India accept only JPG/JPEG. Websites load faster with WebP. Designers and anyone working with logos or screenshots often need PNG. You may also receive a WebP from a website or a BMP from an old scanner that your app won't open. This converter changes JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP files into JPG, PNG or WebP, several at a time, without uploading anything: the conversion runs in your browser.

How the conversion works

Each file is decoded by your browser, drawn onto a <canvas> at its full size, and saved again in the new format:

decode (JPG/PNG/WebP/GIF/BMP) โ†’ draw on canvas โ†’ encode (JPG/PNG/WebP)

The width and height stay exactly the same. Photos taken sideways on a phone are turned the right way up using their EXIF orientation. Other EXIF data, such as camera details and GPS location, is not copied to the new file.

*An animated variant (APNG) exists but is not used here. Animated GIFs are converted from their first frame only, because JPG and PNG hold a single picture.

Transparency and the background colour

JPG cannot store transparent pixels. If you convert a PNG logo with a transparent background to JPG, something has to fill those areas. Saved naively, they usually turn black. Here you choose the colour (white by default) and the tool paints it behind the image before saving:

result pixel = image colour ร— opacity + background colour ร— (1 โˆ’ opacity)

So a half-transparent shadow over a white background becomes a light grey, just as it looked on a white page. PNG and WebP keep the transparency, so no background is needed.

Worked example

You have a 1200 ร— 1200 PNG logo (transparent background, 180 KB) and a form that accepts only JPG. Choose JPG, keep the background white, set quality to 90% and convert. You get a 1200 ร— 1200 JPG with a white background. Because the logo has large flat areas, the JPG is often much smaller than the PNG, though sharp text edges may show faint JPEG "ringing" at low quality. For a logo you will put on a coloured web page, convert to WebP or keep the PNG instead, so the transparency survives.

Tips and limits

  • HEIC photos from iPhones can't be read by most browsers. Share the photo as "Most Compatible" or JPG from the iPhone first, or choose it through the browser's photo picker, which often converts it to JPEG automatically.
  • Converting JPG to PNG does not restore quality that JPG already lost; it only makes the file bigger. Do it only when an app needs PNG.
  • WebP output needs a browser that can write WebP. Chrome, Edge and Firefox can; if yours can't, the file is saved as PNG and the list tells you.
  • Converting many large photos at once uses a lot of memory on phones. If the browser struggles, convert in smaller batches.
  • Use the Image Compressor if you need the converted files under a size limit, and the Image Resizer to change their dimensions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Choose JPG as the output and keep the background colour white (or pick any colour). JPG can't store transparency, so the tool paints that colour behind the transparent parts before saving, instead of letting them turn black.

Add the WebP file, choose JPG or PNG and press Convert. The width and height stay the same. Choose PNG if the image has a transparent background you want to keep.

Yes. Add several files, convert them in one go and download them individually or together as a ZIP file.

Only the first frame is converted, because JPG and PNG hold a single still picture.

Most browsers can't read HEIC files, so they are skipped. On the iPhone, go to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose 'Most Compatible' for new photos, or share the photo as JPG first. The browser's photo picker often converts HEIC to JPEG automatically.

No. Conversion happens inside your browser using the canvas feature. Your files never leave your device.
