Find the STD code of any Indian city or town, or the place for a code, with dialling help

How to Use
- Type a city or town (just the first few letters is enough) or an STD code such as 0141 or +91 80. Older names like Bombay, Gurgaon or Trichy work too, and if a name is misspelt you get a "Did you mean" list.
- Matches appear as you type. Tap a place in the list to see its code if more than one place matches.
- Read the dialling table on the right: what to dial from the same area, from another landline, from a mobile and from abroad.
- Press Copy code to copy the STD code with its 0.
- Below the result, tap another place in Other codes to look up a nearby town in the same state.
What an STD code is
An STD code (Subscriber Trunk Dialling code, also called an area code or trunk code) tells the network which part of India a landline number belongs to. Every landline sits in a local exchange area with its own code: 11 for Delhi, 22 for Mumbai, 141 for Jaipur, 2692 for Anand. This STD code finder searches about 2,400 cities, district headquarters and towns in every state and UT, both ways: type a place to get its code, or type a code to see which place it belongs to.
The codes come from BSNL's state-wise STD code list, which follows the exchange areas in the Department of Telecommunications' National Numbering Plan. We checked the list against other sources in October 2026 and updated old state names (Telangana, Ladakh and others).
The 10-digit rule
An Indian landline number is always 10 digits once you add the STD code (without its 0). A big city with a short code has a long local number, and a small town with a long code has a short local number.
| Code | Example place | Local number |
|---|---|---|
| 011, 022, 033, 044 | Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai | 8 digits |
| 020, 040, 079, 080 | Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru | 8 digits |
| 0141, 0522, 0484 | Jaipur, Lucknow, Kochi | 7 digits |
| 02692, 06542 | Anand, Bokaro | 6 digits |
How to dial a landline
- From a landline in the same area: just the local number.
- From a landline in another area: 0, then the STD code, then the number.
- From any mobile: 0, the STD code and the number, even if you are standing in the same city. Mobiles have no "home" area for this.
- From outside India: +91 (or 0091), then the STD code without its 0, then the number.
Worked example: a Jaipur number 2xxxxxx (7 digits, since 141 has 3 digits). From Jaipur on a landline you dial 2xxxxxx. From a mobile anywhere in India, 0141 2xxxxxx. From Dubai or London, +91 141 2xxxxxx. Writing it as "+91 141 2xxxxxx" on a website or visiting card works for everyone.
Why a town can have more than one code
Codes follow telephone exchange areas, not district or city boundaries. Large rural areas in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and elsewhere are split into several exchange areas with different codes, so the finder lists all of them (Barmer, for example, has six). Smaller towns often share a code with a bigger town nearby, and many big cities have absorbed their suburbs into one code: Thane and Navi Mumbai use 022, Noida and Ghaziabad 0120, and Mohali and Panchkula 0172 with Chandigarh. If the finder shows more than one code, check a recent phone bill or ask the person you are calling.
Useful to know
- Mobile numbers have no STD code. They are 10 digits starting with 6, 7, 8 or 9 and work the same from anywhere in India.
- Since 15 January 2021, calls from a landline to a mobile need a 0 before the mobile number (a Department of Telecommunications rule that freed up more mobile numbers).
- No STD code starts with 9, so a number like 98xxxxxxxx is a mobile, not a landline.
- Toll-free numbers (1800โฆ) and short codes like 112 are dialled as they are, with no STD code.
- The search runs inside this page. What you type isn't sent anywhere.
