Working Days Calculator
Count working days between two dates, excluding weekends, bank Saturdays and holidays
How to Use
- Pick the Start date and End date. Keep Count the end date too on to include both days, or turn it off to count up to the day before the end date.
- Choose your weekly off: Saturday and Sunday, only Sunday, or the bank pattern of the 2nd and 4th Saturday plus every Sunday.
- Optionally type or paste your holidays, one per line (e.g. 26-01-2026 Republic Day). Tap Add 26 Jan, 15 Aug, 2 Oct to add the three national holidays for the years in your range.
- The working days update instantly, with total days, weekly offs and holidays that fell on working days.
- Scroll down for a month-by-month breakdown, or tap copy result.
Working days vs calendar days
Many deadlines in Indian offices, banks and contracts are counted in working days (also called business days), not calendar days. Examples include leave applications, notice periods in some companies, payroll and attendance, delivery promises and project plans. A working day is any day that is not a weekly off and not a holiday. This calculator counts them for any date range, using the weekly-off pattern you choose and your own holiday list.
Weekly-off patterns in India
| Pattern | Who follows it | Working days in October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday + Sunday off | Most private offices, IT companies, central government offices | 22 |
| Only Sunday off | Many shops, factories, schools and some state offices | 27 |
| 2nd and 4th Saturday + Sundays off | All banks in India | 25 |
The bank pattern comes from the RBI announcement of August 2015, effective 1 September 2015. Banks close every Sunday and on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. The 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays are full working days. Bank unions have long asked for a five-day week, so check your bank's notice if the rule changes. Bank holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act also differ from state to state, and RBI publishes a separate list for each state.
How the count works
A holiday that falls on a Sunday (or another weekly off) is not subtracted twice. The tool lists such holidays separately so you can see why they didn't change the total.
Example: 1 to 31 October 2026, Saturday and Sunday off, end date included. October has 31 days with five Saturdays and four Sundays, which leaves 22 working days. Add Gandhi Jayanti (2 October 2026, a Friday) as a holiday and the answer becomes 21 working days. Under the bank pattern, only the 2nd and 4th Saturdays (10 and 24 October) are off, so the same month has 25 working days, or 24 after Gandhi Jayanti.
Include or exclude the end date?
For leave and attendance, both the first and last days usually count: leave from 5 to 9 January is 5 days. For "how many days until" a date, the end date is usually left out. Turn off Count the end date too for that. The start date is always counted.
Adding holidays
- Paste your company or state holiday list straight from a PDF or email. Each line can carry the holiday's name after the date.
- Dates are read day first, the Indian way: 04-03-2026 is 4 March. 2026-03-04 and "4 Mar 2026" also work.
- Only Republic Day (26 January), Independence Day (15 August) and Gandhi Jayanti (2 October) fall on the same date every year. Festivals such as Holi, Eid and Diwali move, so take their dates from your official holiday list for the year.
