Exam Photo & Signature Resizer
Crop and compress photos and signatures to exam and form specs in KB and pixels
How to Use
- Choose your exam or form and whether you need the photo, signature, thumb impression or declaration, or pick Custom size.
- Compare the width, height and KB range with your notification and edit any value that differs.
- Add your photo or scanned signature. A preview shows the crop at the exact output shape.
- Use Zoom and the Move sliders until your face or signature sits well in the frame.
- Tap Make JPG, check that the file size is inside the range, then download it and upload it to the form.
Why exam forms reject photos
Online application forms for UPSC, SSC, IBPS, SBI, NTA exams (NEET, JEE Main, CUET), passports and PAN check every upload against a fixed specification: file type (almost always JPG/JPEG), a file-size range in KB and often a pixel size. A photo straight from a phone is usually several MB and the wrong shape, so the portal refuses it. This tool crops your photo or signature to the right shape, resizes it to the exact pixels, and compresses it into the KB range, all inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded to us.
Always check the latest official notification. These specifications change between notifications, so every value in the tool can be edited.

*Where the official text gives only a range or no pixel size, the tool suggests a size (350 ร 450 px for photos, 350 ร 150 px for NTA signatures, 400 ร 400 px for the UPSC triple signature) and labels it as a suggestion. SSC, UPSC and NTA also capture a live photo by webcam or phone while you fill the form, and SSC uses only the live photo, so there is no SSC photo preset. RRB requirements differ from one CEN to the next and several recent CENs use a live photo, so use Custom size with your CEN's numbers.
How the tool works
1. Crop to fit. The output box has a fixed shape, for example 200 ร 230 (slightly taller than wide). The tool cuts the largest area of that shape from your photo, centred, and you can zoom in and move it so your face is placed well. Nothing is stretched.
2. Resize. The cropped area is scaled to the exact pixel size. Sizes in centimetres are converted using the DPI (dots per inch):
3. Compress into the range. The tool binary-searches the JPEG quality for the best picture that stays under the maximum. If even top quality is below the minimum (common for small signatures, which are mostly white), it adds blank comment bytes inside the JPEG file to reach the minimum. The picture itself does not change.
Worked example: PAN card photo
Protean's specification is 3.5 cm high ร 2.5 cm wide at 200 DPI, colour JPEG, maximum 20 KB.
Height = 3.5 รท 2.54 ร 200 = 275.59 โ 276 px
A 197 ร 276 photo usually fits under 20 KB at high JPEG quality, so the tool needs only a light compression.
KB: 1000 or 1024 bytes?
Portals don't always say whether 1 KB means 1000 or 1024 bytes. To be safe, the tool aims for at least minimum ร 1024 bytes and at most maximum ร 1000 bytes. For a 20โ50 KB range that means 20,480 to 50,000 bytes, which passes either way. The exact byte count is shown after you press Make JPG.
Tips for an accepted upload
- Use a recent colour photo with a plain white or light background and even lighting. NTA bulletins ask for 80% of the image to be the face, with ears visible; UPSC asks for at least three-quarters face coverage.
- No cap, mask or dark glasses. For passport photos, the Passport Seva guidelines ask you to take glasses off to avoid reflections.
- Sign in black ink on plain white paper. IBPS and SBI do not accept signatures in capital letters, and UPSC wants the signature three times, one below the other.
- Scan or photograph the signature in good light, then crop tightly so it fills the box.
- Use the same photo everywhere: the uploaded photo is matched with your live photo, admit card and ID at the exam centre.
